Longer Crunch times, Less RAC ... Why?

The (average) WU size has not increased. However it may vary a lot even between two "long" Workunits, so you may have gotten larger ones recently.

For the change of the credits, read the other threads as suggested. It was mainly due to new Apps for Windows and Linux.

For the Macs I just got a new set of Apps out of the door that will hopefully again narrow the gap the new Win/Lin Apps have opened. Read about them in the sticky threads of the Cruncher's Corner.

Longer Crunch times, Less RAC ... Why?

Thanks Bernd ... but they only refer to G5
My other 2, - G4 and MacBookPro are untouched.

Here ist the 4.26 I'd recommend for G4 (which actually runs on all Macs), and this is the thread for 4.28 for Intel Macs.

Stupid question ... If as you say WU's have not increased how can it vary between 2 "long" WU's. Surely either they are the same size or they are not?

We haven't increased the WU size with time. There have alway been large variations, which you may not have noticed before. There has, however, been a decrease in the speed of the Mac Apps from 4.06 to 4.12 (read about that here) - but that was quite a while ago.

This still does not address the dramatic drop in credits delivered for MORE cpu time (ie MORE work).
Getting :-(( this end with the whole thing. Why should my computers suffer from something that is done for Windows and Linux.

I strongly suggest to browse the discussion in the threads mentioned by Stick and continue it there if necessary.
