Bernd has finished building a new test application for Linux. This detects and uses the SSE instruction set if your computer supports it, which can increase the speed by a significant factor. The test app is available here.

Please report success and/or failure with the test app to this message board thread.

Good point. Will do.

Anyone compared the 006 against the Windows one on Wine?

There is absolutely no need

There is absolutely no need to feel sorry.
Good to know that this works as expected on non-SSE machines.
Thanks a lot for the report!

Which is odd since it runs OpenGL (Nvidia) apps just fine otherwise.

That's a bit odd indeed. Which other Apps are you running (correctly)? Are you sure they use the GLX extension, or might they just interface the hardware?

Run xdpyinfo and look at the extensions.

We are about to make the 0.06

We are about to make the 0.06 Beta test App the default official one for the Linux platform in the next days. Please show up if you think this is a mistake!

Ok, the previous beta test

Ok, the previous beta test App 0.06 has been put up as the new official Linux App 4.81. It should be downloaded by the client automatically if it's not running the beta App. You may switch back to the mainstream now (remember that switching App versions errors all work assigned to the prior version - try to get "no new work" and finish the current work fist).

How do we switch back? Just delete the beta stuff?

Yep. Actually it should be enough to delete the app_info.xml file. Make sure you stop the client before doing this.

I put up a new App (0.15),

I put up a new App (0.15), available from our usual Beta Test Page.
It allows to manually override the CPU detection and force it to use generic code (problems have been reported witch certain PIII Coppermine CPUs).
It also features later BOINC code, incorporating the fix to the signal handling (suspend/resume etc) we devleoped for MacOS, so it might hep with problems in that area, too.

Happy testing!

I am testing this version 0.15 using a Pentium III Coppermine CPU. It works
successfully but there are no graphics (nor with the previous versions)!

Thank you for the report. It seems that the latest BOINC code requires a slightly newer pthread library (and kernel) than the previous one. What kernel version are you running?

I found the problem. It's

I found the problem. It's rather in the build process than in the kernel version, most likely nobody is able to see the graphics on Linux right now. A fix is on the way and we should have a new App soon.
