We have a new version of the Einstein@Home application ready for testing on Macintosh OSX. Please see [url=http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/app_test.php]
http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/app_test.php for details of how to install and test this on your Mac OSX computer.
This version includes a working screensaver and should interact nicely with the new BOINC manager tool.
Please use this thread to report success or problems with this application.

Nice to see you here!
We should put them in a tar so the user doesn't need to do this manually
Already saw these...
Good eh? Was a hard piece of work...

Fairly soon we ought to have an Altivec-enabled version available for testing. That will be quite a lot faster.

I just saw your first dropping in, looks ok.
Your iBook won't gain much of the AltiVec App, but it's good to test the AltiVec detection I put in...

Bob,
(1) Do you have OSX 10.3.9 or 10.4?
(2) Are you using version 4.43 of the BOINC manager?
(3) Did you have a working installation BEFORE putting the
app_info.xml and einstein_... files into place?

Instructions say to install version 4.43 of the BOINC manager. If you do this,
and attach to the project, it creates the directory described above.

Well, that's how it should be. Would be courious to know what your iBook makes of it.
There should be a line "Detected CPU type" in the stderr of the Results, 1 means AltiVec, 0 means generic.

What was your "old setup" (i.e. which client version)? I remember that earlier clients didn't properly honor your "Do work while computer is in use" preference setting, the newer Clients should do this. Take a look at the general preferences in "your account", you may need to adjust this item to get the old behavior.

AltiVec is an SIMD unit that is built into G4 and G5 CPUs. The 0.02 App makes use of it, it doesn't give anything on a G3, though.
BTW: did anyone notice an increase of crunching time on a G3 between the official 4.78 and the 0.01 / 0.02 beta test Apps?
