Download Preferences way out of Whack ... !!!

You have seven hosts registered. Which of these is the one that got the 15 WU?
Here is a snippet from our scheduler log for one of your machines:

2005-01-21 12:40:49 [normal ] Processing request from [USER#3373] [HOST#5409] [IP 68.61.51.68] [RPC#8] core client version 4.16
2005-01-21 12:40:49 [normal ] [HOST#5409] got request for 344710.080000 seconds of work; available disk 6.000000 GB

Notice the request is for 4 days of work. 8 results were sent, which is about right.

Download Preferences way out of Whack ... !!!

Have updated to BOINC 4.18, but no joy on suspending when user is active.
Went to preferences on website and changed the default 3 min to 2 min, then updated the BOINC client. Now it suspends properly. Is this a bug??

Hi Mom!

Could you please try changing the default back to 3 min and see if it keeps suspending properly? If it does, then this may be a bug related to how we first created the user accounts and sent out keys. It's probably not a bug in BOINC.

Love,
Bruce

Translating this into UTC gives 15:42 to 15:44 on Jan 21. Here's what we have in our logs:

2005-01-21 15:42:28 [normal ] Processing request from [USER#3373] [HOST#5404] [IP XX.XX.51.68] [RPC#15] core client version 4.16
2005-01-21 15:42:28 [normal ] [HOST#5404] got request for 342491.673600 seconds of work; available disk 3.283755 GB

2005-01-21 15:43:17 [normal ] [HOST#5404] Sent 8 results

then:
2005-01-21 15:44:11 [normal ] Processing request from [USER#3373] [HOST#5404] [IP XX.XX.51.68] [RPC#17] core client version 4.16
2005-01-21 15:44:11 [normal ] [HOST#5404] got request for 172272.925055 seconds of work; available disk 3.278512 GB

2005-01-21 15:44:48 [normal ] [HOST#5404] Sent 8 results

So your machine was sent 16 results because it asked for 5.9 days of work. Typical results from your machine take about 10 hours, so this seems pretty close to the 14 results that would have filled 6 days.

I don't know why your machine asked for some much work, but I think the scheduler gave it what was requested.

Cheers,
Bruce

Hi Bruce,
Sorry about the delay. Just changed the preferences back to 3 minutes and it seems suspended, so your predicate seems confirmed.

Love,

Dad

OK: conclusion is that the preferences are only used once you force a download of them by modifying them then using 'update project'. I'm glad this is sorted out!

Doesn't seem quite right because, before the manual change, the machine was using the defaults for preferences, which includes the 3-minute period. I wonder what would have happened if, without modifying that setting, one had updated. Also should the update of the previous sentence actually be needed?

Cheers,

Steve
