As promised I made a new Solaris SPARC App and put it on the Beta Test Page.

Short tests have shown it to be nearly exactly four times as fast as the current official 4.36 App. I'm eager to get some feedback on that.

Happy testing!

RE: It is not 4.5 times

It is not 4.5 times faster, but "nly" 3.5 times, but I'm still vey happy.

You got WUs from a different set (z1 vs. r1) for the new App, so it's not that easy to compare the run times. I'm inclined to think that it actually is 4x as fast, and the remaining differences come from the normal variation of the WUs.

I hope this will be the oficial app soon.

It will be the official App for the S5 run, the few remaining WUs of S4 aren't worth the hazzle of distributing a new App.

This week we'll finish

This week we'll finish generating work for S4 data, though S4 WUs (i.e. S4 "work") will be around for some more weeks. We've already started to distribute some test WUs for S5 to make final adjustments, we'll start distributing them on a larger scale soon.

See this thread.

I see that the anonymous

I see that the anonymous platform scheme we use for public Beta Test is badly prepared for the transition to S5R1 we're doing now.

With that transition I'd consider the Beta Test to be over - and successful. The Apps we will use for S5R1 are almost the same than the ones we had in public Beta Test, the improved science code is actually identical, thus the new Apps will be precisely as fast as the Beta Test Apps.

Thank you for all your help, this was incredibly useful!

Due to the rather late build of the Solaris App what I wrote about the other Beta Test Apps dosn't apply here - this Solaris App is indeed capable of processing both types of WUs and came with an app_info.xml that will also allow for getting both types. So in principle you don't need to change anything. You should, however, remove the app_info.xml at some point if you want to get back to the automatic update track again.

RE: Is the beta app suppose

Is the beta app suppose to claim version 408 for the client app on the S5 workunits? I seem to be seeing this in the information of the workunits my Sunblade processes.

It is. It's the same binary as the official 4.08 App.

RE: Not quite the same,

Not quite the same, enough peripheral details were changed that akos's s4 apps aren't usable and he's having to restart from scratch to optimize again.

Sorry. Should you know better than me?
