Recently detached, updated to current version of Linux /Einstein software, and re-attached. After initial download & re-starting of data, boincmgr is now failing to update, transfer, etc., with following messages:

Attempted switching off iptables (firewall) and re-sending still no-go.

Comments/Solutions?

It definitely appears to be a networking problem. Could you post some details about your Linux distribution and networking setup? If you just do 'ping einstein.phys.uwm.edu' in a terminal window, can you see replies from the Einstein@Home server? If you point your browser to http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/ what happens? Suppose you point to http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/EinsteinAtHome_cgi/cgi . What do you get then?

Cheers,
Bruce

Currently running an old version of red hat with the 2.4.20-8 kernel, been stable for years. Only recent change was update of Boinc/Einstein software. Not experiencing any other problems with this system, networking included. Using dial-up modem over conventional U.S. telephone line with the Mozilla Firefox 1.0 browser.

Per your questions.

a.'ping einstein.phys.uwm.edu':

PING einstein.phys.uwm.edu (129.89.61.70) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from einstein.phys.uwm.edu (129.89.61.70): icmp_seq=1 ttl=57 time=209 ms

b.'http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/':

The einstein home page pops-up.

c.'http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/EinsteinAtHome_cgi/cgi':

505
http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/
60.000000
Incomplete request received.

You seem to be viewing this page in a WWW browser. Visit the main page.

Additionally and superfluously. :-)

d.'host einstein.phys.uwm.edu':

einstein.phys.uwm.edu has address 129.89.61.70

In short, all the system networking stuff looks fine.

Boincmgr continues to attempt to xfer approximately every minute, fails, & re-schedules as per prior message.

I'm stumped. Could I suggest that you detach your machine from the project, then reattach it. Warning: you will lose credit for any work that your machine has completed but not yet uploaded.
